Origin of the LFST
As trains grow longer and the increased reliance of distributed power becomes more the norm, even main line refueling platforms have become inadequate in processing train movements. The QRS LFST was designed to specifically answer this need.

Features of the LFST

  • Work site fuel delivery
  • Computerized fuel management technology
  • Multi-purpose service capabilities
  • Railroad certified personnel

As a specialty Railroad industry provider committed to continued innovation in fueling services, QRS has developed the next generation of direct-to-locomotive refueling equipment. Our unique multi-purpose fleet lets us meet the specific fueling and servicing needs of your rail assets. The fueling and servicing equipment fleet of QRS includes:

  • Locomotive Fuel Service Truck (LFST)
  • Light Locomotive Service Truck (LST)
  • DTL and DTS Trucks
    - Light Tank (up to 4500 gallons)
    - Super Tankers (up to 9200 gallons)

Locomotive Fuel Service Truck
The Locomotive Fuel Service Truck’s (LFST) multi-purpose, innovative functionality, delivers large quantities of fuel direct to the work site, along with traction sand, lube oil and water. Locomotive toilet and pollution tanks can also be evacuated and serviced safely, and efficiently in the field with this same piece of equipment.

All these functions can be accomplished quickly, safely and dependably without the need of a second truck or additional manpower. The LFST reduces cost and provides greater flexibility than any other alternative outside of a fixed refueling and servicing center. In addition, the fuel capacity of the LFST can be expanded with the addition of a pull behind (PUP) trailer easily covering total locomotive fueling needs.

The QRS LFST provides the industry with a valuable tool that keeps locomotives out in the field working. In addition QRS mans the equipment with qualified employees who will fully inspect, maintain and repair any defect found with the locomotive, per the Federal Railways Administration rules and guidelines.

All LFST’s are equipped with a state of the art computerized Hawkeye fuel management system {link to Hawkeye Technology Section}. The Hawkeye system electronically links the truck, operator and railroad fuel management team (or other responsible party) to the refueling and servicing performed by QRS.

The onboard computer keeps track of fuel usage, right down to the individual tank that received the fuel. All reports of your fuel use are transmitted electronically over the Internet and made available via our secure web site.

Locomotive Service Truck
The Locomotive Service Truck (LST) delivers traction sand, lube oil and water. It can also be used to evacuate and safely service locomotive toilet and pollution tanks in the field.

These functions can now be accomplished quickly and safely either in combination with DTL fueling services or as a separate service. The LST reduces cost and provides greater flexibility than any other alternative outside of a fixed refueling and servicing center.

The QRS LST provides the industry with a valuable tool that keeps locomotives out in the field working. In addition QRS mans the equipment with qualified employees who will fully inspect, maintain and repair any defect found with the locomotive, per the Federal Railways Administration rules and guidelines.

DTL Trucks
QRS Direct-to-Locomotive trucks provide fuel transport to the field with maximum efficiency. Either large or small load, stand alone fuel transport, or in combination with QRS LST’s. DTL trucks optimize locomotive utilization and keep your valuable assets on the move. In addition the same trucks can be used for Direct-to-Storage (DTS) transport of your fuel from the refinery to your storage facility.
